Position: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Location: Saskatoon or Regina. Other Saskatchewan centers may be considered. Ideal Start Date: July 20, 2026
The Executive Director is the sole paid employee at the Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association. This position drives the growth and engagement of our member base while meeting the day-to-day needs of the association. We are looking for a creative problem solver with initiative, strong organizational skills, and strategic thinking to drive the growth of Olympic Weightlifting in Saskatchewan.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
1. Community Development
• Develop and manage relationships with all stakeholders including members, funding bodies and other sports organizations.
• Assist with the organization of major SWA competitions (~5-8 per year) and events while working to build relationships and promote SWA activities.
• Build leadership capacity for the Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association by linking organizations and community groups to available resources.
• Promote the organization and its programs in the media, and to the public. Manage the website and the image of the organization.
• Support the growth of underdeveloped Sask Sport zones to ensure the SWA maintains minimum membership requirements in as many zones as possible.
• Work with bid committees to develop and submit bids to host National and International competitions in Saskatchewan.
2. Coordination
• Manage the day-to-day responsibilities and functions of the SWA including financial and volunteer oversight.
• Act as the primary liaison between the SWA and its stakeholders. Assist and support the coordination of communications, including the distribution of a monthly newsletter to the membership, social media posts, and regular communication with training centers.
• Manage and oversee the SWA’s programs and volunteers, including recruitment of volunteers and training centres. Actively participate on committees and boards that pertain to the position (i.e. Committee meetings, Sask Sport meetings etc.).
• Coordinate development activities for the association including volunteer, official, and board member training.
3. Organizational Capacity
• Support the Board of Directors in the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Ensure proper record-keeping in all operational areas, including updating membership lists, competition results, provincial records, and rankings.
• Provide organizational support to the SWA Board and Committees to ensure tasks are completed and goals attained in a timely manner.
• Support the Board of Directors in strategic planning based on provincial and national Weightlifting sport initiatives, such as the development of a new Strategic Plan every 3 years.
• Manage the finances and budget of the SWA with support from a bookkeeper. • Coordinate the creation and presentation of the annual budget and report. • Prepare grant applications, funding requests, and follow up documentation for funding
agencies. Ensure the SWA’s activities meet the requirements of its funding agencies. • Other duties as required and assigned.
Negotiable Responsibilities
• If needed, act as Competition Director overseeing the scheduling, organization, and hosting of competitions throughout the season with support from volunteer organizers.
Qualifications and Experience

Our preferred candidate will have:
• The demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong problem-solving skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to advance key objectives by assessing challenges, identifying opportunities, and collaborating to determine effective paths forward.
• Some knowledge of bookkeeping and general financial/accounting principles (support for this aspect of the position is provided).
• Demonstrated experience being detailed oriented, analytical, organized, and delivering high quality projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A high level of comfort working with Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Squarespace, Instagram, and Facebook.
• A post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration, sport, culture or recreation administration (or a relevant discipline) is preferred. A strong combination of relevant training and experience will also be considered.
• Knowledge and experience in strategic development, program planning and delivery, and partnership development. Policy development, and data collection and evaluation. • Experience working with a board of directors is preferred. Experience in a non-profit organization, particularly in sports, art, or culture is considered an asset.
• A driver’s license and regular access to a reliable personal vehicle.
• A criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search is required for the successful candidate.
Working Conditions
• Permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week). Part-time options may be available for the right candidate.
• Flexible hours. Travel, as well as evening and weekend work, will be required. • This is a remote work position. Office space can be provided in Saskatoon or Regina. Meeting spaces can be provided when necessary.
• Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
• The weightlifting season typically runs from September to June. Generous vacation time and/or the ability to work a significantly reduced schedule in the summer can be considered.
• $47,870-$66,220 per year.
